Families and volunteers speak out

“Going to The Children's Room helped the pain go away. Talking about it helped.”   -child

“The most important lesson we both learned was it was okay to cry with each other… and she learned it was ok for her to cry without upsetting me.”  –parent

“The benefit of volunteering is feeling that you are part of something wonderful.  I always leave the evening feeling energized.  It has made me more compassionate and understanding of other people’s problems.”  -volunteer

“I am happier and am doing better in school because of The Children’s Room.  It is a great place to express your feelings.”  -child

“Being with teens and talking to everyone was helpful.  I am talking a lot about my Dad.  It’s hard to lose a parent.  But in the end it will work out.”  -teen

“It is a place to laugh and cry with people in the same boat.  Very non-judgmental.”  -parent

“I feel stronger and like I have grown out of my loneliness.”  -child

“Every time I’m volunteering I go home feeling like I’ve contributed something special to the

world.”    -volunteer

“What makes it work is the great sense of community with both the people The Children's Room serves and the volunteers.  There is an enormous strength in peer and parent groups.”  -volunteer

LETTER FROM A FORMER PARENT

... As I reflect back, I can’t really describe to  you how important The Children’s Room was to our family.  I think that my kids have transitioned to a good place – but there is always more work to be done.  Last month, Mary was given a school assignment to give a speech in front of her class about any topic important to her.  She gave a speech entitled “The Hole in My Heart” and she talked in front of all the kids about the death of her mother.  Without The Children’s Room I don’t think she would have been able to do this.  Thank you so much and say hi to all our friends at The Children’s Room.

            Thanks!!!
